rps raised the priority of T577: Unconfigured Ethernet interface discovery partial failure on boot from Low to Requires assessment.
There is certainly a race condition in interface renaming for VyOS 1.2. This is possibly also an issue for 1.3 but more testing is required before I'm sure of that.

I check it in latest rolling releases and it work fine (ipv4 and ipv6).
Unknown Object (User) removed a project from T1820: VRRP transition scripts for sync-groups are not supported in VyOS (anymore): VyOS 1.2 Crux (VyOS 1.2.4).
Looks like the vyos-1x images was not rebuilt from the crux branch before the new image was built. I manually checked out the crux branch and the commit ins backported in there, rebuilt the packages manually and everything needed is in there and working.

That subsystem has now been completely rewritten and certain things are skipped if underlaying hardware is virtio or vmxnet.

A version of @hagbard 's fix has been committed as eced4a49c67d2e0e3e131193afe679aee0c5c679; the incorrect behaviour with the edit level has been fixed and referenced in that task (T1846).

A parsimonious fix to this issue has been committed; I will move the status to "In progress" until the related issues mentioned here are sorted through.

Thanks, @trae32566 for the information! I would be happy to change this fix in that way, which does not allow to place unwanted records to resolv.conf at all, but I cannot catch the same situation like yours to collect enough diagnostics data to be sure in the reason of such behavior.
I don't see this bug in the latest versions of the VyOS (VyOS 1.2-rolling-201912090217 and VyOS 1.3-rolling-201912090242).

Please provide real commands, else we can not reproduce the issue. Can you try it on a second installation?
This is probably not problem from dns_forwarding.py, not only dns forwarding but also dhcp server encounters same problem.
