@marc_s Would you be able to open a PR against 1.3 ?
Nov 17 2022
@marc_s thanks for testing !

@v.huti Thanks for investigating and testing! How about you create a PR with the patch against 1.3 / equuleus ?

Ah, yeah, that's a valid point for gretap.
well, "gre" and "gretap" are different types of tunnels, with different features.. so it makes sense to test and validate with the normal "gre", as in your config I don't see a need for "gretap".

Hmm, any specific reason for the tun0 encapsulation 'gretap' ? did you try with normal 'gre' tunnels ? Does it change anything?

It'd be nice to get a newer igc driver version in 1.3 branch though, as there are now multiple good 2.5 GbE based platforms out there..
Yes, and no updates for the driver in 1.3.2. Ok, thanks!
So hmm, is it still the same issue in stock vyos 1.3.2 with i225 nics?

Hmm, where should the documentation for "gretap" be now? I checked the following and it's still missing:

This should now work aswell with the latest vyos 1.3 versions!
@c-po confirmed, works OK in vyos-1.3-beta-202102250443-amd64.iso. Thanks a lot!

It seems the same problem (lack of "ethtool -g" support) happens also with "veth" interfaces.. ref T2516
I'm seeing the same problem with Xen HVM guests, where the paravirtualized nic-driver "xen_netfront" doesn't seem to support "ethtool -g".. ref T3347

also having lots of NAT rules makes the vyos config handling and boot time very slow..
Feb 22 2021
and indeed the fix works, I'm now able to add more than 215 dnat rules, and still fetch the config over the vyos http api! Thanks a lot everyone.
If I disable Xen PV drivers using "xen_platform_pci=0" from the host/dom0 side, and thus I get emulated e1000 NICs in the Xen HVM guest, then setting address to ethernet interfaces works ok..

Thanks a lot @jestabro ! I'll give it a go with the latest version(s).

Yeah.. I don't think it's a timeout issue really.. because of this:
Any comments here? Is this a known issue/limitation? I can look into the internals and do some debugging if this should be working in the current state..

@Viacheslav Thanks a lot, I'll give it a go, hopefully sometime next week.

There are also other huawei LTE WWAN USB modules which use CDC/NCM drivers.. such as E3276 and E3372.. so it's not possible to use these anymore? I actually haven't used those with vyos myself yet, but I was planning to try it soon, as I have those USB WWAN modules available, and I've been using them with other linux distros (with cdc/ncm drivers).

Did this work earlier in previous releases? is this a regression in 1.2.6-S1 ?
Aug 20 2020
So I'd love to have this feature back in, but I still don't understand why it was removed. It's ok if it needs to be implemented in some other ways, but for some reason there hasn't been any communication/replies to this issue.

32-bit Xen PV support was dropped recently from upstream Linux kernel 5.9.
64-bit Xen PV is still supported in upstream Linux kernel.

ok, thanks! I can test on xen aswell, when the fix is in 1.3/rolling.
does this also affect vyos 1.2, or only 1.3/rolling?
