We had a discussion among the maintainers team and came to the conclusion that it's currently out of scope for VyOS, even if the code is pretty good. Thanks for the effort, though. For the future, it's a good idea to create a task in Phorge and gather opinions there.

So i spent some time looking into this this weekend and i didn't find any other existing implementations so i made one. I was looking at including these in with the standard IF-MIB but had some issues with overlapping indexes between the VPP and Kernel interfaces. So i see two options.
The PR that adds background operations is now merged so I suppose we can close the task.
